Friends of St Michael’s

The Friends of St Michael the Archangel group was formed to foster interest in our beautiful historic parish church and to provide funds for the maintenance and improvement of the building and its furnishings.

Currently we have around 190 members, almost all of whom are life members.   The names of life members are inscribed in a specially bound book kept in the Church.   King Charles III became the first Friend on the roll in 1976.

Refurbishment of the Vestry

On this page are photographs of some examples of recent church projects funded by the Friends. These include library and display units in the Friends corner, refurbishment of the vestry, upgrade of the Church sound system and new curtains, carpets, pew cushions and stacking chairs.

Friends receive annual newsletters and are invited to the fund raising events, of which we usually have three or four each year.   These events include bazaars, social evenings, concerts and progressive lunch parties.   Our income comes from these fund raising events plus subscriptions, bookstall sales and donations.

New Recipé Book

The Friends of St Michael’s Church have produced a cookery book of recipés from members of the community of Mere. There is a sample copy with an order form in the Friends Corner and the cost is £8. Alternatively the books are available directly from Pat Isom  (01747 861776).
